BOTOX® - Essential information
|
|
Botox®,
or botulinim toxin type A, is a reduced and purified material
produced by the natural occurring bacteria that produce the
neurotixin botulism. Botox® identifies the botulinum toxin
type A neurotoxin complex product manufactured and sold by Allergan
Inc. and distinguishes the product from other different botulinum
toxin products on the market, by definition any usage of the
word 'Botox'® refers solely to the product that is manufactured
by Allergan Inc. - Irvine, California, U.S.
Since 1989, Botox® has been approved and used for 20 indications
such as hyperhidrosis, hemifacial spasm blepharospasm, cervical
dystonia, focal spasticity in paediatric cerebral palsy, severe
axillary and upper limb spasticity in adult post-stroke patients
in more than 75 countries. A clear distinction exist between
the therapeutic and the cosmetic products. Botox® for cosmetic
is sold as Botox® Cosmetic in the U.S. and Canada, VISTABEL®
in the UK, France, Spain, Switzerland and many other EU countries
taking the name of VISTABEX® in Italy, in this article
when we mention Botox® we refer specifically to the cosmetic
product.
Botox® cosmetic product is safely used extensively and successfully
by qualified opthamoligists as a sterile injectable solution
for the treatment of glabellar frown lines where remarkable
changes in facial appearance can be accomplished. Botox gives
excellent results on the upper part of the face and especially
on the lines between the eyes, crow's feet (around the eyes)
and horizontal lines in the forehead resulting in a younger
appearance and improved smooth skin texture. Skilful treatment
with Botox® is routinely applied as specific cosmetic procedure
for changing the shape of the eyebrows and to reduce smoker's
lines around the lips.
Botox® is one of, if not the cheapest and safer excellent
alternative to clinical invasive cosmetic surgery. The process
involves a few drops of Botox® cosmetic injected with a
very fine needle into the muscle that is responsible for the
wrinkles 'blocking' the nerve impulse from accessing the area
thus relaxing the weaker muscle, as a result of it, the skin
loosens causing the wrinkles to gradually abate and progressively
fade.

Botox®
treatment is one of the safest procedures used now days for
the reduction of wrinkles. It does not alter facial expression,
it takes a few seconds and any discomfort which is localized
to the area under treatment start disappearing once the injection
is over.
As the body ages the appearance and flexibility of the skin
alters, these changes become particularly visible on the face,
in younger people, photoageing (sun damage), a stressful detrimental
lifestyle and smoking are believed to be the main causes of
facial lines and wrinkles. You don't have to be 'old' or be
over a certain age before you are contemplating treatment. The
majority of patients having botox treatment are over the age
of 30, the average age is in the region of 45 to 50, patients
should be within the ages of 18 - 65.
Botox cosmetic treatment is temporary, as a rule of thumb it
takes
a day or two before you can see results which usually last from
3 to 6 months, thereafter, treatment can be reapplied to the same
areas. |
